Is ACH cheaper than credit card processing?

Yes. ACH transaction fees offer the lowest fees possible, averaging about $0.30 per transaction versus a 2.5% fee when a customer pays by credit card. ACH also offers additional payment options to consumers.

How Long Can An ACH Be Pending?

An ACH transfer from one bank to another typically takes 3-7 business days. Same-day processing may be available with some banks.

What is Nacha?

National Automated Clearinghouse Association (Nacha) is a non-profit organization that works closely with the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserves to manage the ACH network. They also enforce the rules on all 10,000+ network participants.

Can I accept Apple Pay?

Yes, you can accept Apple Pay. Our countertop and mobile POS solutions accept most forms of payment, including Apple Pay.

Do I need a bank account to open a merchant account?

Yes. Even if you operate as a sole proprietor, you will need a business bank account to open a merchant account. All of the funds from your transactions will be sent to your bank account.

How long does it take for money to hit my bank account after a transaction goes through?

Merchants often receive funds in their account within 24 to 48 hours after the transaction, barring any issues during the clearing process.

My business is located overseas but I operate in the U.S. Do I qualify for a merchant account with National Processing?

Yes, but in certain industries where chargeback rates are high, you may not be eligible to open an account. Additionally, certain merchants may be added to a “blacklist,” created by Visa and MasterCard, banning them from opening an account with any U.S. merchant, including National Processing.

What do I get with a merchant account?

A merchant account is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept credit and debit card payments. With this type of account, your business gets the advantage of offering customers more payment options.

Do I pay the same amount for every charge I accept?

No. Rates vary by brand, and most fees range between 1.5% and 3.5%.

What is interchange-plus pricing?

Interchange-plus pricing is a pricing model that outlines the fees that go to the bank or card issuer and the processor’s markup. It’s a more transparent pricing model compared to others.

Does National Processing have a POS system?

Yes. National Processing has a POS system designed specifically for restaurants and retail stores. This all-in-one solution is designed to handle large volumes of transactions at the speed of your business.

Is National Processing a bank?

No. National Processing is a third-party Independent Sales Organization (ISO) of Chesapeake Bank and Woodforest National Bank. Because we work with multiple banks, we are able to match people with the right solution for their business.

What does National Processing need from me to open a merchant account?

Opening a merchant account can be like opening a business bank account or applying for a line of credit. Typically this will include business bank account information, employer identification number (EIN), and financial statements. Some of the processes involved with opening a merchant account are outlined here.

What banks do National Processing work with?

National Processing works with Chesapeake Bank and Woodforest National Bank. 

Why should I choose National Processing as my payment processor?

National Processing has been in business for 15 years and has demonstrated during this time to be the top payment processor in the United States. 

Does National Processing charge a flat rate for service?

No. Flat-rate merchant providers like Square, PayPal, and Stripe round all credit card fees up to a flat rate. Your pricing with National Processing is based on interchange pricing, so you can be confident you are paying low rates.

What happens if I need to cancel my contract early?

National Processing has a $495 for merchants with Paysafe and a $595 early termination fee for Chesapeake Bank customers. This does NOT apply to businesses that have been sold or closed, or for businesses who find a lower rate offered by a competing processor.

Is there a contract for service?

Our standard contracts are two and three years in length. These contracts come with the National Processing Promise and we will not hold companies to the contract that are closed, sold, or give us the opportunity to meet or beat a competitor’s rate.

Is there a minimum fee with my account?

There are monthly fees for service depending on the account. Most accounts pay $9.95 monthly as part of the terms of service.

When can I expect to receive funds in my bank account?

Under most circumstances, money will be transferred to your bank account within one to three business days.

How long does it take to process my application?

There are several factors that determine the length of time for your application to be processed. These factors are related to your industry and the structure of your business. 

How does National Processing compare to Square?

If you are processing more than $10,000 a month, National Processing can help you save on fees. Unlike Square, National Processing provides you with a merchant account. Rates for your account is based on interchange-plus rates (rates charged by credit card companies). With Square, you do not get a merchant account, and you are charged a flat fee for every transaction.
